When Privacy Matters More Than Insurance

Many of the men I work with choose to pay privately rather than use
insurance — not because they can’t afford the co-pay, but because they want
the deepest possible level of privacy.

When you use insurance for mental health treatment, a diagnosis becomes
part of your permanent medical record. That record can be reviewed during
background checks for certain jobs, security clearances, professional
licensing, life insurance underwriting, and custody evaluations. For
compulsive sexual behavior, pornography concerns, or infidelity-related
issues, many men prefer that no such record ever exists.

What Private-Pay Means Here

  • No diagnosis is sent to any insurance company — because
    there’s no insurance involved.
  • No record of treatment exists outside of the confidential
clinical file kept in my office, which is protected by HIPAA and California’s
    strong mental health privacy laws.
  • Your employer, family, and insurer will not know you are
in treatment unless you tell them.
  • You control the pace and length of treatment — no
utilization reviews, no session limits, no treatment plans submitted for
    outside approval.

Private-Pay Fees

  • Initial consultation (50 minutes): $350
  • Individual therapy session (50 minutes): $180 – 350
  • Group therapy session (90 minutes): $80
  • Psychological evaluation: fees vary by scope; please call for a quote

Payment is accepted by credit card, HSA/FSA card, check, or Zelle. A
superbill can be provided for you to submit to a PPO plan yourself if you later choose to — but this is optional and entirely your decision.

Is Private-Pay Right for You?

Private-pay makes the most sense if any of the following apply:

  • You hold or may hold a security clearance, professional license, or
    sensitive role.
  • You are in a profession (military, law enforcement, medicine, law,
aviation, finance) where mental-health diagnoses in your medical record could
    affect your career.
  • You’re in a custody dispute or anticipate one.
  • You simply want the highest possible level of confidentiality — on
    principle.

The Next Step

I personally return every call within 24 hours. Our first conversation is
free, confidential, and without obligation — we’ll talk about what’s going on,
whether I’m the right fit, and what treatment would realistically look
like.
